Yesterday I woke up excited for the day ahead. Mondays always make me happy and even with work on the agenda for the next three days, I still woke up happy for a Monday. But as soon as I got to work, the day took on a whole new feel...basically one of what I call "bizarro day."
Strange things sometimes go on at the library. We have all manner of patrons with different needs. But yesterday was a new level of random things happening. As I've said before, I never knew the library was such a community hub, where people come to make copies, use computers, scan things, fax things (we don't have a fax machine), print things, etc. There is just an endless list of needs that people have and think we have all the answers to what they need.
But the day started with my co-worker having a blow out on her way to work, which meant I was at the front desk by myself. Thankfully she finally made it to work, but had to leave again to have her tire repaired and took the rest of the day off. That makes for a very long day for the person up front. Which, if it's a quiet day, is not that big of a deal, but it was bizzaro day, remember?
Just to name a few things (because there's no way I can name it all), I had one lady ask if she could water our (dying) plants out front. Then proceeded to give me the run down on how we should be taking care of our plants on a daily basis. All of this while I'm trying to check in the books she just brought back.
Then another lady walked in, dropped some strange items - old books and a shower curtain that looked like a flag - on the table and told us to find the "man of God" that those items belonged to and get them back to him - then walked out, leaving us scratching our heads at what or who she was talking about.
Later a woman wanted us to scan 35 pages of something, just as another guy walked in and needed to hook his laptop up to the printer so he could print $15 worth of Pokemon cards...in color.
Add all of these to the lady who took the time to look up the library's phone number, just so she could call us and ask if we could look up the number to the church down the road. 😬 And the list just goes on and on and by the time 6:00 pm rolled around, I truly felt like I couldn't do another thing for anyone. I just needed to sit down and have food.
Thankfully I had made a pot of stew on Sunday, just so I wouldn't have to cook on Monday, so all I had to do was heat up a bowl when I got home and sit down with David in front of the tv.
And as I walked in the door, put my stuff down and headed for the bathroom, I found myself saying "It's so good to be home" and then I realized that it really did feel like home 💛 and that revelation felt so good at the end of such a strange day.
We are comfortable here. But more than that...it feels like home.
After eating a nice, hot bowl of stew, we walked to the pool and just put our feet in for about 15 minutes. It was 8:00 by then and dusk, which is just a relaxing time of the evening.
David took this picture from the steps we were sitting on, as I soaked my feet in the warm, soothing water.
It's so nice to be able to just walk out our door and have an entire pool at our leisure. I've always wanted a pool 😉 As we were enjoying our foot soaking, we watched a couple kicking a ball around together in the grass, a man FaceTiming with someone on his phone, and people still coming home from work. And yet, the evening was pleasant and quiet too.
You just never know where life is going to take you. I never dreamed we would be living in an apartment, going down to the pool at 8:00 pm and enjoying the community the way we do. But here we are.
I'm telling you...God will take you on the journeys, folks. You just have to be willing to go.
Until Next Time...
Blessings!
You know, I have those kinds of days too (working in a prison, gives it a whole new meaning, lol). I am glad the apartment is working out for you, smiles and such a lovely pool. Wishing you a lovely day my friend.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I can only imagine the stories you could tell :) Have a wonderful day :)
DeleteWhat an interesting day you had to start the week, Debbie! I remember those kinds of days when I was in the classroom. The view from the pool looks lovely. I hope today goes smoother for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Robin :) I'm expecting a calmer day. If not, there's always the pool to come home to :)
DeletePeople are always interesting! You never know what's going to happen. I'm sorry it was so crazy when you were by yourself though!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling at home!
I am always intriqued to hear "interesting people" stories! There is just no end to them. And you just have to wonder.... Hooray for dinner already made and a pool to soak your feet in at dusk. I love that! Here's to a quiet Tuesday!!
