Hello Friends!
Happy Wednesday...happy day before I go back to work day...happy "it's already May" day!
Wow! This year is moving on, isn't it?
As I'm typing this today, it's dark and rainy outside. It's been storming since yesterday. I don't mind, though, because I'm really enjoying my time at home right now and I kind of like this cozy feeling of not having to go anywhere.
Here's the recipe:
1 1/2 cups washing powder
1 1/2 cups Borax powder
1/2 cup salt
That's it!
I used two recycled sauce jars and made a cute label and that should last them for a while. Every night when I would use the store bought powder or liquid, I wouldn't feel great about washing my dishes in all of those chemicals, so this was the alternative. I didn't do a cost comparison, but I would think it comes out to our benefit, either way.
This has been on my reading table this week. I've had this book for many years and go back to it once in a while, when I need a reminder that a home is what you make it. Myquillyn is a beautiful decorator, but she also shares her experience in this book about moving 13 times in her first few years of marriage. Life happens! Jobs happen. Crazy things happen. But she rolls with the punches and makes the best of each home she moved into and it's really inspiring.
This is another book I've been perusing this week. I have probably shared this here before, but I keep several of her books in my kitchen and I will read a few pages while I'm cooking or waiting on things to cook. I'm planning on sharing some tips here soon.
Today I'm cooking some ground beef and making some meals to put in the freezer. I'm trying to get ahead of the game by having things I can heat up after work. Yesterday I made a big pot of Chicken Taco Soup, which we ate for dinner and then I was able to put 3 containers in the freezer for the next few weeks.
Today I will be dividing up the ground beef and putting it the freezer for lasagna, tacos, more soup and some "hash" that I make with cubed hash browns. Nothing fancy, but it will feed us on the days I don't want to cook up something new.
In other news...
David and I are talking about downsizing, which I will share more of when we get closer to actually doing it. I've already started cleaning closets, selling a few items and envisioning myself in a smaller space. Lots of thoughts going into our next season of life and what we want that to look like, financially and just in ways of how to do life.
These are thoughts that I will share as time goes by. For now I'm watching a lot of YT videos about other people downsizing and living their lives free from debt and mortgages and all that entails and I'm getting really excited about the possibilities.
But for now, I've got a list of things to do today, so I better get to it!
I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
Until Next Time...
Blessings!
What a great idea (& sweet gift) about the dishwashing powder. :) Your meal plans sound very tasty and it's such a smart way too be ahead of the game. Your future plans sound very exciting and I look forward to hearing about your journey. Prayers for all the right answers to fall into place. And Happy Mother's Day ahead to you! 💝
ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie :) Happy Mother's Day to you too! I hope you have a great celebration with your family.
DeleteThe simpler we can make our lives, the better. Circumstances I did not foresee led to huge downsizing and it's been good. I have more time to do things slowly and just be better rested. May it go well for you, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara :) We are looking for simplicity and more time and money to spend on what matters. Thanks for the encouragement.
DeleteWe downsized five years ago and I've never regretted the decision.
ReplyDeleteKathy, this seems to be the consensus. I've not heard one person regret their decision to simplify. Thanks for the encouragement.
DeleteWe downsized when we moved from Florida to Illinois and I do not regret it one bit. I highly recommend it for finances and time wise.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouragement Lori. We are looking forward to it.
DeleteWhat cute labels on the jars.
ReplyDeleteThe book looks interesting. I just borrowed it from the library.
I hope you enjoy it :)
DeleteSounds like you have had a very productive week. I so enjoy having meals already prepared..just pull them out of the freezer, heat them up and dinner is done! Nice to have this recipe for the dish soap. I know several couples in our area that are downsizing, one being an uncle and aunt of mine. They had a beautiful place, but decided it was time downsize. I would love to do the same, right now I'm too attached to so many things around here. I wish you and David the very best in the decisions you make for the future.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shug :) I think it has to be the right time for all the feelings about time and money to add up. Then it will feel right and it won't be so traumatic.
DeleteSurprised to hear about downsizing. As in, moving? I don't think I would have it in to move again so soon. I'm only up for that about every 20 years or so - lol! (We've got four more here at that rate! Phew.) I don't think I have ever used powder in my dishwasher. Not even sure how much to use...or even where to put it. HA But I love the idea of making my own whenever possible. Hope you have a wonderfull weekend ahead. Happy Mother's Day to you!!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, this made me chuckle...you put the powder in the same little cup as the liquid or the pod :) There was powder long before all the rest :)
DeleteGreat idea about the soap/powder. Downsizing, sigh...yep...that has been an ongoing issue with us too. Wishing you a beautiful Mother's Day.
