Well folks...that's a wrap! Christmas is officially over (unless you're one of the official types who keep it going into the new year). We had a great night with our kids and grandkids. Paper was everywhere, toys here and there and way too much food was had.
This year was a little different, due to us being in an apartment. There wasn't much room to spread out, but we made it work.
The night ended with football on tv, conversations everywhere and everyone playing on someone else's toys. Lots of chaos and noise, as you would expect with 13 people in one room 😅
Somehow Alex managed to get this picture, which makes it look like there wasn't much going on, but trust me...there was! Being in this small space has definitely made me excited for getting back to a bigger house. All it took was a little perspective.
And speaking of...the next day David and I got busy over at the house and Collin and Morgan came to help. We made a lot of progress and will be doing more today. I won't bore you with all the details, so I will wait until we have something significant to share.
I hope you had a great time with family or friends. I know Christmas feels different every year, depending on what's going on in life or what you've gone through that year. I think we need to learn to roll with life and put down the expectations that trip us up each year, because it never happens like the picture perfect Christmas they show on tv (or even the one you've romanticized in your memories). I'm talking to myself on this one.
I think it's the old saying about keeping your eyes "looking up" and "not around" at what others are doing or how you've failed in some way. It's not the time to compare with what others are doing or who has better traditions, etc. It's absolutely not the time to look on social media and play the comparison game because let's face it...you'll never measure up to the glitz and glamour of some. But to someone else, who's looking up to you, you might be the one they are trying to measure up to.
Can we all just be ourselves and be ok with that? What a relief that would be 😅
So to anyone that feels like Christmas was just a few baubles short of perfection this year...I'm here to tell you...you did a great job! And you will do a great job next year too, even if it looks a little different than this one.
It's really not about us anyway, is it?
So Merry Christmas my friends. The new year is coming and we get a brand new start. Now that's something to get excited about.
"A thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy.
I have come so that they would have life in abundance."
John 10:10
Until Next Time...
Blessings!
I needed to read these words today! How funny that we both mentioned expectations in our posts today. I am the first to admit that mine are often way too high. I loved reading about you all making do with the space you had this year, and taco soup for Christmas is perfect! I love the picture of you on that chair with a little one in your lap; you're right, and it doesn't seem a lot else is going on when that was taken! I'm so glad you had a great day; thank you for the encouragement and reminder at the end of this post. Much love to you, my friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely day was had by all. I have one more get together and I am still not sure when that will be. Somehow the holiday gets extended a bit every year. That is fine with me.
ReplyDeletePS - I have that same fine china!!! LOL
A great way to put everything in perspective. Thank you for that! I always feel bad about not making Christmas as special for my children as I would like but I do remind myself that all I need to do is remind them of the reason we celebrate ... Jesus. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas with family. Wishing you and your family many blessings in 2026.
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective shared in this post. Thanks for the reminder and glad y'all had a sweet time!
ReplyDeleteI just love that photo of you and the grandkids, thank you for the smiles. Guess what, next year / Christmas you will be back in your former home, smiles. Thank you for the smiles you bring. Have a beautiful Saturday.
