A Sweet Surprise and I'm Turning 60!

Happy Friday my friends!

This week I had a sweet surprise when I walked into work on Wednesday. My co-workers had decorated my desk for my upcoming birthday and it was so sweet and thoughtful.

I am off on my actual birthday, so this early celebration was just what I needed to get in the birthday mood 🎂

I was having a little trouble accepting the fact that I'm turning 60, but then I saw one of my favorite YouTubers say that she didn't even start her channel until she was 60 (10 years ago) and it really helped change my perspective.

I guess age is what you make of it...at any age, so here I am...almost 60! 🎉🎈🎊

Yesterday I had lunch with one of my best friends, which is always a treat. We always solve all the problems over chips and salsa or queso, which is the best way to solve everything 😀 We try to meet up every other month or so, and end up talking for hours. It's definitely one of my favorite things to do.

Today I will do all the things that require my attention around the house, such as paying bills, finishing up laundry, deciding what's for dinner and working on my special project Collin has been helping me with.

I love my days at home and feel so thankful that I have a job with time off to do the things I love doing. I've purposely written "read" and "embroidery" on my Never Ending To-Do List, so that I will take the time to just sit in between everything else. Sometimes you have to pencil in the fun things, so you will take time to actually relax.

I also made a little vow to myself recently to get back to being creative. I've let that go a lot over the past few months and this week I purposely took about 15 minutes to do some fun journaling during my Bible reading one morning and you know what?...it refreshed my soul in ways I had forgotten.

I love creating fun, whimsical notebooks, using paper and stickers and visual prompts made from magazines. Just the cutting, gluing and then writing what those pictures make me think about, is basically like therapy in the best way. And being creative is one of the things that feeds my soul. I need to not neglect that part of who I am. 💛

So...hopefully this next week of days will bring calm and peace, as well as more celebrating. I know my kids have planned dinner for me on Monday and we will have a few special guests there, as well. I can't wait!

I hope you all have the best weekend and hopefully I've inspired you (or just reminded you) to do something that feeds your soul these next few days. It's important. If you do, write about it and inspire the rest of us! That's important too 😀 Tell your stories.

I love you, my friends!

Until Next Time...

Blessings!

  1. Happy early birthday, Debbie! How fun to have your colleagues celebrate you! I think you are so right about feeding/nurturing pieces of yourself that bring you joy and happiness. I cross stitch and I find I need that time with my needle and thread. I can let the quietness surround me along with thoughts and prayers for whoever I am stitching the piece for. Happy Friday and have an enjoyable weekend!

  2. What a lovely thing for your co-workers to do for you. Happy birthday. Yes, it is what you make of it. In a little over a week I will be 71 - and not sure how that happened so fast!!!! LOL! I still feel pretty darn good, and do most everything I want. No number is going to stop me - don't let it stop you!

  10. That sounds absolutely beautiful 💕 There’s something so healing about creating with your hands — the mix of colors, textures, and thoughts coming together. It’s amazing how art like that can calm the mind and nourish the soul. Keep feeding that creative side — it’s such a wonderful part of who you are 🎨✨

  11. I love this so much 🌸 There’s something magical about letting creativity flow freely — cutting, gluing, and letting the images tell their own story. It’s like a little window into your soul each time you create. Never stop making space for that joy and inspiration — it truly keeps the heart alive 💕✂️📖

  12. I also really appreciate your philosophy of having to pencil in the fun things like reading and embroidery. And your dedication to getting back to being creative through your journaling sounds incredibly restorative. You are right, that kind of cutting and gluing is like therapy. I wish you a week full of peace and more wonderful celebrations with your kids.

  15. Happy Birthday Debbie.... 60 is really very young!! I say, you are as old as you feel...Kick those heels up and be 50 if you want to. What a sweet thing your co-workers did in celebrating you. Looks like they put a lot of effort into making things perfect for the celebration. I do hope you special day is just as special as you....

  16. Hi Debbie! What a fun birthday surprise! By the way, have I ever told you I've always wanted to work in a library?! You are very lucky : ) I agree that age is just a number. I try not to think about it and just be as old as I feel. I do love that you are being creative again. It's funny, I've been thinking the same thing lately. I just purchased a cross-stitch kit at Michaels and have been enjoying working on that at night before bed. It's fun to have a project. It really does feed the soul.
I hope you have a lovely birthday!! xx
