Use It Up! A Fun Project

Hello Friends! Happy Friday!

Today I wanted to share a fun project I did this week,
in order to use up some things that were just
hanging around.

It all started a few weeks ago when I bought some

Arm & Hammer scented laundry beads.

They were on sale at Kroger, BOGO,

so I grabbed two different scents

and counted it a "great deal" because the other

brands that I really like are

too expensive and I quit buying them.

In case you've never used them,

they add a wonderful, clean fragrance to your laundry,

but they are definitely a splurge.

So I was happy when I found this bargain and

decided to use them right away on a load of towels

I was washing.

Well...there might have been a reason they were on sale!

All of my towels came out stained with dark purple

spots!

I was horrified and so glad I only used them in a load of towels

and not David's brand new work shirts,

which were all white!

I quickly removed the two canisters from the laundry shelf,

just so there wouldn't be an accidental usage,

and I poured them all in a glass jar.

Why? Because they smelled so good!

I had an idea brewing about how to use them,

without ruining any more loads of laundry.

This week I finally got around to using the beads.
I found some fabric in my box of scraps and sewed some little pouches.
I then filled them with two scoops of beads each,
and then sewed the top side shut.

They smell wonderful!

Then I tucked them all around the house, a few in each room,

and I am so happy with the finished product.

I'm glad I didn't just toss the beads in the trash,

because they are earning their keep now,

making my house smell clean and fresh.

The best part of this project was knowing

that my money did not go to waste.

I did notice the next time I went to Kroger,

that those particular products had been taken

off the shelf and there was a tag

covering the product description,

so I would imagine there were complaints.

As for me...

my house smells wonderful,

so I'll forgo the complaints this time.

😀

Well, I'm off to start the day

with a little 13 month old who will be

spending a few hours with me.

I hope he thinks my house smells good.

😉

Until Next Time...

Blessings!

  1. What a neat idea! I have never used those before as I have sensitive skin/allergies. And I am sure the 13-month-old will love it, grin. Have a great day! (PS we have a 2 yr. old great grandnephew and we saw him last night and he goes, "Where you been Aunti Window?" LOLOLOLOL)

  2. I can't use any scented items for laundry - but that was a great save.

  3. Brilliant! I have to admit, I would have probably tossed those pesky beads. But I'm sure the house smells good (those beads do smell great) and you have a nice satisfaction whenever you notice that fresh scent. Here's to a nice Friday and plenty of fun with your little guy!

  5. I love those scent beads! But my husband does not, and since I wash our clothes together, I don't use them anymore. I ended up tossing them away. Sure wish I had thought of your great idea. Then again, I don't sew, so I probably wouldn't have thought of it. Anyhow, smart thinking!!

  7. Good save! I'm proud of your frugal feat! I love using things up. Unfortunately, I can usually think of a use for ANYTHING!. Than makes it hard to get rid of anything, too!
