Breakfast on the back porch.
Sometimes you just need to have a slow, quiet weekend, where you hang around the house, wear your sweatpants, slippers and maybe even dare to not fix your hair or put mascara on. This was one of those weekends for me.
I didn't totally isolate myself, but with the exception of going to the grocery store on Saturday and out to buy some plants on Sunday, David and I stayed close to home for three glorious days. We didn't even go to church on Sunday. Sometimes I need a break from that too.
The past month and a half has seen us sick, David starting a new job, my mom's husband dying and us traveling 5 hours south and back...twice. In the midst of that we've still managed to keep kids, have family dinner, work, clean, build swing sets, mow the grass and have David's mom over for a day.
All that to say...we're tired. And I just felt like this was the weekend to recoup some much needed down time.
Bible study on the porch one morning.
Sunday evening was beautiful, warm and breezy, so we repotted some flowers and started a garden area in the front yard. I'll take some pictures of it this week.
Monday I did some easy work around the house, such as straightening the freezer, writing down an inventory of the freezer contents, a few loads of easy laundry (nothing that had to be hung) and put a roast in the crockpot. I also made a pot of beans, some roasted potatoes and some broccoli and we had a wonderful dinner, while watching an old movie.
It was time to start a new month in my planner, so I spent some time being artistic and creative, which I do at the start of every month.
I've managed to read a little, here and there this weekend, but not as much as I hoped. I have about 3 books that need reviews written (I review for Hatchette Book Group) so I need to really get going on those this next week.
It's also time to make sure June's budget is in place, as well as my mother-in-law's account and bills are taken care of (I take care of that for her, since she's in an assisted living). I love budgeting, so I don't really mind all the money tasks.
As the week goes on, I will share more on David's job situation and some changes that are coming up with that.
I have a friend date this week, a birthday party for baby Asa, Millie Day and shopping for another birthday party, which is on Saturday night.
I'm hoping this restful weekend we've had will carry me through the week! I'm not one that enjoys going places every day, but some weeks are like that and others are not. I try to roll with it most of the time and then sometimes...like this weekend...you just have to put on the brakes and choose yourself first. And I need to be ok with that, because it's hard to say no sometimes.
And that's a weekend recap for me.
What about you? Did you have a good weekend? I certainly hope you did 💛 Talk to you soon!
Until Next Time...
Blessings!
Your weekend sounds like it was great. I love down-time, but for me, sometimes too much down-time is too much down-time. It sounds, though, like you still got a lot done. Yay for balance.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, I agree, sometimes too much down time can send me over the edge! And I finally added your blog to my list. Not sure why I had not done that already :)
DeleteJennifer, I guess we did still get a lot done, just at a slower pace.
ReplyDeleteHello!!! I love your weekend, my friend. Weekends at home are my favorite. I am doing laundry today and visiting blogs, while sipping a smoothie. Have a cozy afternoon!
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, as always, your day sounds perfect :)
DeleteSounds like a good relaxing weekend for you.
ReplyDeleteI like staying around home but I'd still have to get dressed and go for my morning walk! :)
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is rest and take a break. Sounds like your weekend was just what the Lord designed for you and your hubby. Love your breakfast and devotion on your porch. My dearest love to do that on our small balcony.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I read your blog I find another area that I relate too. I am a watercolor artist, and love to enhance my journals! I don't paint much now. Being my dearest caregiver has taken more time, and I really don't have space in our small unit to pull out all my art supplies. Yes, I too am a budget keeper, and take inventory of the refrig, cupboards, etc. You are a delight! and a plesure to visit you.
Wanda, you bless me with every comment. Thank you! I'm so glad you're here :)
DeleteYes, indeed, we all need a quiet break from "life", sometimes. I have those needs myself. I have just discovered your wonderful blog home and just wanted to say hello.
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
