Happy Sunday!

It's a cool Sunday morning here and the animals are out to play! Just this morning we saw two foxes playing in our next door neighbor's yard and just when we thought that was fun enough, we saw two huge deer in our front yard! I guess they are enjoying this unusually cool weather as much as we are.

It's rained for 2 straight days here and everything is looking so green and pretty. After being in South Texas last weekend and seeing how barren and weathered everything looked, I'm not complaining about the rain or the grass growing. At least we have grass! It's good to keep everything in perspective.

Yesterday was a busy day with some much needed hedge trimming, car cleaning, building a patio table, shoe shopping, and preparing some things for Mother's Day. David did part of this - can you guess which jobs he did? and I did the other. Divide and conquer - makes the jobs go faster 😅

I'm having a little brunch for Mother's Day next Saturday and I've been working hard to prepare some things for that. I'll be sure to take pictures and share...afterwards.

Yesterday I needed to pick up a new pair of casual shoes for David. I had a coupon for a local shoe store, so I went to town to get gas and see what the shoe store had to offer. I'm always shocked when I see the price of shoes! Everything is so expensive these days! I sure miss the days of Payless shoes. If you spent $25 on a pair, that was considered the high end. These days you can't get a pair of tennis shoes for less than $60! Honestly, I don't know how much higher prices can get, before we are all just done with being able to afford anything.

We definitely need to be living by the motto: "Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without!"

Today I will continue to work on the gifts for Mother's Day and hopefully sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. I'm still reading Theo of Golden. I had put it aside for a mystery or two, but now I've picked it back up and it's picking up speed and getting interesting.

My old "friend" Kate Singh just put out a new book -

Living on Minimum Wage: On a Budget in an Expensive World and it was free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

I always read Kate's books, even though I've followed her for years and I've watched her channel for years. But since she has completely deleted herself from all social media and YT, I wanted to read the book to see what she's been up to. I enjoy Kate's way of writing and her frugal advice. As always, the book is easy and you truly feel like you're talking to a friend about how to save money. No fancy words or talk of investing. Just real life advice on how to stock a pantry, cook from scratch and make a house cozy and colorful, on an extreme budget. If you like books about homemaking and budgeting, any of Kate's books on this topic will be a good choice.

Well, I'm off to see what I can come up with for breakfast. It's the hardest meal of the day for me because I like savory more than sweet, but that usually involves cooking 😏. If I could just hold out for lunch, that would be more my taste.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday! If you're looking for a little inspiration today...

Until Next Time...

Blessings!

  1. Your mother's day brunch sounds so fun...What a neat idea Debbie. Hopefully the day will be full of sunshine and no scattered showers. I know what you mean about the cost of shoes. I can not believe how much the cost of clothing and shoes are these days. I think that motto is a good one to follow.... Happy Sunday..

  4. I finished "Theo of Golden" a couple of weeks ago. I have to say, it took me a long time(by my standards) to read it. I would read a little and then take several days to chew on what I'd read. All in all, though, I loved the book. I bet the brunch will be delightful! Somebody will surely be blessed!

    1. Pam, it's taken me a few starts to get into the book too. But I'm about half way and it's finally peaking my curiosity enough to keep going.

  5. Nice that you got a lot of chores done and the weather to do them. Cool to see the nature out there.
I have always watched Kate's YouTube (for years) - but have been annoyed the past couple years with her leaving abruptly and then coming back with a bang. It seems she only does them (YT) when she needs money the past couple years, not real concerned with her followers. Kind of disappointing.

    1. Cheryl, I know what you mean. It is annoying. Another one I have watched for years did the same thing last year. No warning or goodbye - just turned off comments and disappeared.

  7. We had some bad weather here, lots of rain and thunder. The Walgreens a few blocks down the road was hit by lightning and had to close. But the yard and plants loved that good drink of water and were looking pretty today.

We're finally getting some warmer days after the rain here in the northwoods. So we've been cleaning up the yard and preparing for blooming season ahead. I think we're going to host a Mother's Day BBQ over here. Hopefully more of the lovely weather with show up! I love that song - he's so talented! Blessings on your week and Happy Mother's Day ahead to you! 💗

Friendly comments are always welcomed. I read them all, even though I don't always reply, just for the sake of time. But I am grateful for every one :)
