I Have a New Hobby...Maybe

Hello friends!

For awhile now I've been looking for a new craft to work on and I think I've found one! I didn't set out to do embroidery but I came across an ad from a company I had previously bought t-shirts from and they are now selling needlepoint kits. Well, this led to doing more research, which of course led to more ads popping up and the next thing I knew, I was ordering this cute, little kit.

It came with all the tools and has Youtube videos to teach each type of stitch, so it looks like I'm off on a new adventure!

When I was younger - 5th grade to be exact - our homeroom teacher taught the entire class to cross stitch, which was so much fun. I still have my project! That got me hooked on cross stitching and I did it for years after that.

I also learned to do the hook rugs with my mom, which I would love to do again one day, if I can find some cute patterns. I'll have to do more research!

As I was thinking about what craft I wanted to start, I thought about quilting, which I know absolutely nothing about, but was willing to learn.  I wanted something I could sit with while watching tv, so the quilting would have to be something I could do by hand. That sounded tedious and I wasn't sure how to get started, so a smaller craft sounded like a better idea.

So far, I have outlined the bus on this one and I noticed that my eyes were pretty strained. Is this going to work? Hmmm...maybe my eyes were just having a bad day. We shall see! 👀😂

If you have any tips or tricks about this, let me know! Also, are needlepoint and Embroidery the same thing? I have so much to learn!

Until Next Time...

Blessings!

  1. I've done some simple embroidery but it's been a long time. It's fun. They do make lighten magnifying glasses. I have one that clips to my desk but they all different kinds. Might help with seeing those little stitches.

    1. A clip on light is a great idea! Thanks Ann :)

  2. That kit is very cute! It is an embroidery kit. Needlepoint is specific to woolwork on mesh canvas. Embroidery encompasses threadwork (cotton, silk, fine wools) on fabric. Very different.

    1. Thank you, Sue :) I wasn't sure if the names were interchangeable or totally different.

  3. I see Sue already explained the difference to you.
Then there is cross stitch. The pattern is printed on a cloth and you make the design with mostly crosses and it can have some embroidery stitches.
Counted Cross Stitch is where you have a blank piece of cloth. The pattern is on a paper and you have to count the stitches. I've done all of these and counted cross stitch is my favorite.

Your embroidery kit is cute and small enough so you won't get discouraged with it.
I have an OTT light which is extremely helpful.

  4. That is such a darling embroidery kit! I like the design, and the finished product will be so cute to display! I was cleaning out a closet and found my knitting needles...goodness, I haven't used them for years. I got hooked on making dishcloths and giving them to anyone who would take one.HaHa. It was so easy to do while watching TV or just sitting! Mayble I'll buy a skein of yard and make a few. You have inspired me!!

    1. Wanda, yes! Do it! I have trouble not buying all the yarn :) All the pretty colors get me every time I pass by. My aunt once made me some placemats and they were beautiful. Maybe you could try those this time :)

  5. Would a good light and readers help your eyes not to be strained? This is a darling kit, though. I'd love to do something like that, but at this time in my life, I don't have the patience. 🤣

    1. I was thinking that maybe strong readers would work better than my regular glasses. And as far as patience...that's exactly why I wanted to try this. When I'm watching tv I get antsy and need something to do while sitting.

  6. I love this! I think I will need to order it. I rediscovered embroidery a few years ago and just love it. It is perfect for me while I listen to an audio book. I have ordered from a company called Stitched Stories before. I agree with comment above to try using strong readers instead of regular glasses.
