A Sneak Peek...The Toy Closet

It occurred to me recently that I haven't shared anything about my cozy cottage lately, so I thought I would catch you up on what's been going on around the house.

Over the past few months of David being home, we've managed to accomplish a few things, move a few things, rearrange a few things, only to move them back again after certain projects were done. One being the kid's toy area, which is basically a closet that is right near the living room. 

As we've acquired more toys (and more kids), I've had to tweak it a few times and recently, when renovating the master bathroom, I had to move all of the toys to the guest room and store all of the tools and extra supplies in their toy closet, just to keep everyone safe and the house halfway decent looking. 

But then we finally got the old shed torn down and a new shed to take it's place and that has allowed me to move all of the tools and materials out to their rightful place and given me a new project to work on...the toy closet. 

This is the horrible reality of what state it was in after moving the tools and supplies out. The shelves have to be put back up and the walls need painting desperately. 

As I browsed Pinterest and Amazon for paint and wallpaper ideas, I came across an article of someone who used old books to paper a wall and I instantly knew that was the answer!

How fun would it be to paper the walls with kid's stories that they could read while playing in their little area? I loved it! And I knew just the books to use!

I had some readers that I used with my boys (so many years ago) that were similar to the old Dick and Jane books and I also had some vintage cookbooks that were falling apart. Both of these sets would be perfect for papering the walls.

So I sat at my desk tearing out pages as I sipped coffee and watched Coffee With Kate on Youtube, and prepared a big stack of vintage pages for the wall. 

I just happened to have an almost full bottle of ModgePodge glue here, which was good because I'm still fighting this annoying sinus infection and didn't feel like going to the store. And I always have paint brushes on hand because the girls love to paint. 

So I gathered all the supplies and spent the next hour papering the walls with pages and pages of stories and I loved the result!

 

I'm giving you a sneak peek, but the closet isn't near finished. I still have to put up shelves, curtains and move all of the toys back in place. 

I don't know how much I'll get done today, but as soon as it's finished, I'll come back here for the final reveal!

For now, I'm off to get ready for a big day of decorating and preparing for Family Dinner tonight.
