Yesterday I said I would be working on switching my pantry items to a lower cabinet and several of you seemed interested in the results, so here's the new system.
This is the lower cabinet with the pull-out drawers. I like the way I can see exactly what I have on hand and even the space I have left on the two upper drawers. This will let me know when to start restocking or when I have plenty.
The challenge with this lower cabinet will be keeping the toddlers from discovering it. 😅 I can just see my canned goods going everywhere!
This is the original "pantry" space I was using. It's a big space, but very deep and obviously the top shelf is hard to get to.
So, with the appliance that I don't use very often at the top, that shouldn't be too much trouble.
My baking goods are in the middle and our snacks and breakfast items are on the bottom.
You can see how deep the cabinet is, if you spot the chips WAY in the back.
These cabinets would be perfect for installing some slide-out drawers, but that will have to come later, if at all.
I have discovered that containers (baskets and storage containers) are great, but sometimes they use up way too much space and make things more difficult. I like things to look neat and tidy, so I prefer some kind of containers, but they definitely use more space.
Well, there you have it. Next I need to organize my freezer space. I did a stock-up grocery trip over the weekend and now everything is just wherever it landed in there.
On to the next project! It's so satisfying to open a cabinet or the freezer and see everything in order, don't you think?
I'm wishing you all a great day! Happy Tuesday 😀
Until Next Time...
Blessings!
The pull-outs are fantastic. That will surely help a lot. You might want to keep a little flashlight or one of the battery push button lights in the deeper pantry shelves - it would add extra light for seeing the things near the back! I have a deep pantry as well - and trust me a mini flashlight sure comes in handy.
ReplyDeleteYou are getting it all figured out - practice makes perfect!
Cheryl, the push button light would be a great idea! Thanks for that!
DeleteLooks great! I am grateful for floor to ceiling 6f wide pantry w/5 shelves in my kitchen that is only 18" deep. I have lost 3/4" height in the recent 2 years and it has made a difference for me. I now have a collapsible stepstool beside the fridge when I need an item in the back half of the top shelf.
ReplyDeleteYou could perhaps make better use of the deep cabinets with stepups (they can be made of just blocks of wood so that items in the back are raised and more visible - might help with things.
ReplyDeleteI too prefer to have certain items in containers - it's also easier when having to move things around.
The light is a really good idea - I bought a few of those "push" lights for my pantry and it does help.
What a clever idea to switch it up like that and use the pull-out drawers as pantry space! It will definitely make it much easier to see and stock. Brilliant! I need to go through my pantry area. I have pull out drawers but some are higher and they're deep and pulling them out I still can't see everything! I have no doubt I have some expired things. It's just a big job I've been avoiding - now you're motivating me to get going. Lol Thanks Debbie! Blessings. xo
ReplyDeleteNice! I love an organized space. Thanks for sharing that with us! In a small rental house we lived in before Jonah and Noah were born, I had this big kitchen with no pantry and not a lot of cabinets. At one end was the "laundry room", which was really just a nick with the washer and dryer tucked into the space. I had the thought of using that as pantry space, so we installed shelving over the dryer and used all the space, then put a tension rod on the wall. My mom sewed a beautiful curtain to go on the tension rod, and it was all magically hidden away! My landlord loved what we did with the space each time he came over. It's fun to get to be creative with spaces!
ReplyDeleteYou have a good bit of space and you have organized it very well. I have a huge pantry, but there are so many shelves that I can not reach. I have to have a step stool or I have to get my husband to come and get the needed items down for me. Great job and thank you for sharing...happy Wednesday
