Thankful Thursday - My Grandgirls

 

Today I wanted to link up with Jennifer for a Thankful Thursday post. 

I enjoy having to be intentional about what I'm thankful for, 

because I think it's so easy to take things for granted, 

when they really are such gifts to give thanks for. 

So, this week I'm so very grateful and thankful for my granddaughters, Emmy, Ella and Addie. 

I have been a grandmother (they call me Millie), 

for 7 years now and I've kept them at least once a week, for that many years.

When Emmy was very small, I would drive to town, 

pick her up and take her back to our house for an afternoon, 

while her mom took a break. 

We would play, watch Zootopia, feed horses and read lots of books. 

She was our first and we adored her (still do). 

15 months later, Ella Joy came along and now there were two! 

I still picked them up once a week and kept them for the day, 

but it was a reminder of why we have kids at a younger age! 

Boy was I tired at the end of the day!

Fast forward about two more years and Addie came along 

and now there were three! 

By that time, I began taking Emmy by herself to 

homeschool her twice a week. It was so much fun 

and brought back all those wonderful memories of when I schooled my boys. 

The next year Ella joined us for school and we had a lot of fun,

 but at that point we had our first grandson on the way 

and I realized that I wanted to be done with the

homeschooling years and just be a Millie full time.

So now, I still pick the girls up once a week

 (they also come for family dinner once a week) 

and we do crafts (their favorite), color, play 

with playdoh, play outside, watch tv, play games and play with toys.

It's a full day and by the time David (PawPaw) gets home, 

I'm exhausted 😅 

But I wouldn't trade these days for anything, 

because I know that one day they will be too big to want to hang out 

with Millie and PawPaw 

and I will be so happy to have all of these days to look back on. 

So this week, for Millie Day, 

we decorated gingerbread men cookies. 

They had so much fun!

I just made powdered sugar icing, added food coloring 

and gave them a bottle of sparkly sugar to sprinkle on.

They wanted Christmas music on while they worked, 

so it was a fun and festive time.

The rest of the day was spent coloring, playing games, 

watching tv, eating and playing with toys.

We couldn't play outside that day 

because it was raining, but they had a great day anyway.

When David got home and had a little time with them, 

we loaded them up to take them home, but drove 

through some neighborhoods on the way, to look for Christmas lights.

It was a full and tiring day, 

but I'm so thankful for my time with them. 

When I'm not with them, I miss them!

They are getting older, taking piano lessons, getting sassier 😅, 

learning new things and are becoming little people, right before our eyes. 

I would be lying if I said I wasn't already grieving the growing up of these girls. 

But I know that's just life and

 I'll just keep covering them in prayer and watching

 to see what the Lord does with each of their lives.

In the meantime, we've now got two adorable baby boys 

(who will get their own post one day) and I'm so thrilled to

 get to know them and spend quality time with them, as well. 

I've completely treasured my girls and their individual personalities. 

It's a joy to watch them grow into little ladies.

And for that, I am very thankful!
