So, this week I'm so very grateful and thankful for my granddaughters, Emmy, Ella and Addie.
I have been a grandmother (they call me Millie),
for 7 years now and I've kept them at least once a week, for that many years.
When Emmy was very small, I would drive to town,
pick her up and take her back to our house for an afternoon,
while her mom took a break.
We would play, watch Zootopia, feed horses and read lots of books.
She was our first and we adored her (still do).
15 months later, Ella Joy came along and now there were two!
I still picked them up once a week and kept them for the day,
but it was a reminder of why we have kids at a younger age!
Boy was I tired at the end of the day!
Fast forward about two more years and Addie came along
and now there were three!
By that time, I began taking Emmy by herself to
homeschool her twice a week. It was so much fun
and brought back all those wonderful memories of when I schooled my boys.
The next year Ella joined us for school and we had a lot of fun,
but at that point we had our first grandson on the way
and I realized that I wanted to be done with the
homeschooling years and just be a Millie full time.
So now, I still pick the girls up once a week
(they also come for family dinner once a week)
and we do crafts (their favorite), color, play
with playdoh, play outside, watch tv, play games and play with toys.
It's a full day and by the time David (PawPaw) gets home,
I'm exhausted 😅
But I wouldn't trade these days for anything,
because I know that one day they will be too big to want to hang out
with Millie and PawPaw
and I will be so happy to have all of these days to look back on.
So this week, for Millie Day,
we decorated gingerbread men cookies.
They had so much fun!
I just made powdered sugar icing, added food coloring
and gave them a bottle of sparkly sugar to sprinkle on.
Sounds like a lot of fun and you've helped make such happy memories. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen :) I'm hoping they will look back one day and have good memories of our time together.
DeleteThis is so sweet! They are certainly treasures!
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. White :) They certainly are! Thank you for stopping by the blog!
DeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to your girls! I love that you have a Millie day- how did you come about getting that name? It's so cute! I love reading about your life, because you're just ahead of me. I will always take any advice you have to give! ❤ I am so glad we found each other here in this little blog community.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a grandmother name! I am totally going to borrow that someday. I would never have thought of that! My husband's parents got me in the habit of saying "in-love's" rather than "in-law's". I love that too, because that's what I'll always be- the mom in love. I'll be interested to know if you've been here to Collierville. It's a sweet little place! Thank you for that! I know I'll have questions if my sons ever decide to date and marry. I'm laughing as I write that sentence, because we are LIGHT YEARS away from that.
DeleteHi Teri! Blessings to you, as well :) Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog. I hope you're having a great December so far.
ReplyDeleteHow special that the grandgirlies live close and that you are able to be such a big part of their lives! I love those tasty treats you all made.....it looks like such a special day!!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a blessing to be close to my kids and grands, for sure! All my married years have been spent hours away from my own family, so I've vowed to stay close, as long as possible.
